What: Transformation of an old bicycle factory
Where: Sydhavnen, Copenhagen, Denmark
When: 2026 -
Collaborators: Home.Earth, Tscherning, CG Jensen, ABC, Holst Engineering
Client: Transformer.Build
The project takes place in a former bicycle light factory from the 1940's situated in Amager, Copenhagen. It's part of the Realdania project 'Bevar-Mere', that explores how existing buildings can be transformed into future homes and living environments, promoting a shift towards reuse and a lower carbon footprint in the building industry.
The project investigates the building's potential for adaptive reuse through two parallel scenarios:
(1) a Base project dedicated to commercial functions (2) a Hybrid project combining commercial and residential use. By comparing these two scenarios, the project explores how the building can accommodate different programs through varying degrees of transformation.
