In summer 2026, Arcgency, Cubo, DETBLÅ and Thranekær won the competition to transform Esbjerg Søfarts- og Fiskerimuseet. The project builds on the qualities of the 1968 museum by Halldor Gunnløgsson and Jørn Nielsen, preserving its character while adapting it for today’s visitors.
Careful additions, selective removals and the reuse of existing materials improve the visitor experience while making the original architecture more legible. The transformation creates stronger connections and brings visitors closer to the sea, continuing the story of the existing building.
